Henri Matisse
Paper cut-out project

  • The students learned about the artist Henri Matisse and looked at some examples of his works: Icarus, Two Dancers, Destiny.
  • The students will cut out a figure in motion (favorite activity) and patterns, using 3 colors.
  • The students will then arrange the cut paper onto a large black paper before they permanently glue them down.

The Hidden Chameleon
oil crayon drawing project

  • The teacher read the book "Chameleon's Color" by Chisato Tashiro.
  • The students will learn about neutral colors by comparing the animals' natural colors to the colors they are painted by the chameleon.
  • The students will create a drawing on their choice of colored paper using only colors within that color family.

Be sure to send me suggestions for the next In Depth segment.
